平成26年度 マウント・プレザント市高校生生活体験受入事業

マウント・プレザント市と岡谷市は、姉妹都市交流の一環として、1年ごとに高校生を相互派遣しています。

派遣される高校生は、約2週間、一般家庭にホームステイしながら異国の生活や文化を体験します。

この経験を通して、異文化への関心や理解を深め、将来、両市の国際交流を担う人材になってほしいと願って、平成元年（1989年）からこの事業を続けてきました。

これまでに岡谷市が派遣した高校生は約70人、マウント・プレザント市から受け入れた高校生は約80人にのぼります。

As part of the sister city student exchange program held once a year, Mount Pleasant and Okaya take turns sending high school students over to one another.

The students do a 2 week homestay and experience a different way of life, unique culture, and new foods.

Through this experience, we hope the students will achieve personal growth, develop an interest in foreign cultures, and continue to play an active role in the future sister city relationship.

Since 1989, we have sent 70 students and welcomed 80 students.

マウント・プレザント市から、6人の高校生を受け入れました。

We welcomed 6 high shool students and 1 chaperone to Okaya in summer of 2014.

生徒全員が一般の家庭にホームステイし、実際に日本での生活を体験しました。

初日は、空港で預けたスーツケースが紛失するなど、予想外のトラブルもありましたが、6人全員が元気いっぱいの笑顔で登場してくれました。

Each student stayed with a Japanese family and experienced life in a Japanese home.

They all arrived in Okaya with big smiles despite the airline losing their bags.

筆と墨を使って、英語の名前に漢字をあてた「日本名」を練習しました。

With a brush and India ink, they practiced their names in Japanese.

御諏訪太鼓（神明町）で太鼓の特訓を受けたあと、8月13日の太鼓祭りでは、メインステージに登場して特訓の成果を披露しました。

After having drumming tuition at Osuwa Daiko, the students made an appearance on the main stage of the Drum Festival and showed off their drumming skills.

あやめ保育園を訪れ、園児のみなさんと一緒に英語の本を読んだり、輪になってあそんだりしました。

最後に、子どもたちからもらったお礼のメダルに、とてもうれしそうな生徒たちでした。

The students also visited Ayame Nursery School where they read English books and played games in a big circle with the kids.

At the end of the visit, the kids presented them with cute handmade medals. The students looked so happy with the gifts.

送別パーティーには、全員が着物（浴衣や甚平）で登場してくれました。彼女たちのかわいらしさに、会場内では歓声があがっていました。

生徒たちは、ホストファミリーが持ち寄った日本の料理と、参加してくれた方々との交流を楽しんでいました。

A party was held to see the students off and many of them attended in traditional summer clothing such as yukata and jinbei.

The girls looked so cute that the guests at the party couldn't help but remark as they entered the hall.

Chatting with people at the party, the students enjoyed a variety of Japanese food prepared by the individual host families.
