PLACES OF INTEREST:Clay Figurine of a Pregnant Woman Holding a Pot

This is a Jomon Period (ca 10,000BC-300BC) clay figurine found at the Mekiri Ruins and is on display at the Okaya Art and Archaeological Museum. It represents a pregnant woman with a large belly and was used to pray for good harvests and safe delivery. Her pose holding the pot with her hand on her chest form a perfect figure. This precious clay figurine is the only one of its kind left in Japan.
