EVENTS:Okaya Taiko Matsuri (Okaya Drum Festival)
Our special instrument, the Okaya Taiko becomes the central attraction when the whole city gets together to celebrate every year on August 13th and 14th. The beginning of the festival is announced throughout the city and starting in the early evening, floats of drums and Nagashidori dancers parade through the city. As it gets dark they make their way toward a special outdoor stage. The Kiyari singers and Taiko groups perform one after the other and the climax of the Taiko Matsuri begins when 300 drummers all perform together. The drums create a huge heroic sound and their reverberations are heard all over the city. The festival grounds are crowded with many people from all over the country who long to experience this force and magnificence.
